If you as a consumer of the services of The Implementation try to use or define a name reserved to the implementation, you must be aware that your code will probably break sooner or later, and that it will be your fault, not the fault of The Implementation. The Implementation is allowed to define macros for any purpose it desires or needs, of any type (function-like or object-like) it desires or needs, provided those names are reserved to the implementation. This is one of the reasons why the standard is careful to define which namespaces are reserved for 'The Implementation'. And there's no protection from the macro. This code defines a bogus function that's called min and is nonsensical. This is done with double scan, you can read more about it at C Preprocessor tricks, tips, and idioms. Think about it - what is the function really called? Here I am going to describe three different methods of getting the result of expanded macro evaluation. Had the macro been an argument-less object-like macro, the trick would not work: #define nonsense min In the function definition line, the token after 'nonsense' is a close parenthesis, so it is not an invocation of the nonsense macro. This is because a macro invocation - for a function-like macro - must be immediately followed by an open parenthesis (give or take white space, possibly including comments). The function nonsense() is defined fine, despite the macro immediately before it. One other trick is available - if the macros are function-like macros and not object-like macros. If the macros are not defined in a header, of course, you are stuck until you refactor the code so that they are in a header. A macro is a small piece of code or constant value that is replaced with C source code before the execution of a C program. The Visual Expansion will enable you to visualize the preprocessor passes of the expansion. The macro and its parameters should be enclosed in parentheses. When you hover over a macro, you can access Quick Info, which now includes the Visualize Expansion link in addition to the Copy and Expand Inline options. The problem is there is no 're-enable' mechanism.Īs others have pointed out, if the header file containing the macro definitions is structured so that it does not contain any typedef or enum declarations (these cannot be repeated function and variable declarations can be repeated), then you could #undef the macro, do what you need without the macro in effect, and then re-include the header, possibly after undefining its protection against reinclusion. The analyzer has detected a potentially incorrect macro definition. Using just the facilities defined by Standard C (C89, C99 or C11), the only 'disable' mechanism is #undef.

It depends on definitions that we make up, and those definitions need to serve a scientific purpose. In reality, the line between ‘true tool use’ and actions like Percy’s is often blurry. Photo by Michael HaslamĮmphasising such a subtle difference can seem quite unfair to Percy, who after all is engaging in a whole series of complicated actions to get an otherwise inaccessible meal. If Percy picked up a piece of coral and beat it against the clam, then the coral would be a tool, the same as stone tools used by various wild primates to open nuts and molluscs.Ī wild sea otter breaks a mussel against a rock. In this way her behaviour resembles that of animals such as New Caledonian crows that drop nuts onto stone anvils to break them, or sea otters that pound mussels against a rock. The coral against which she throws her clam is stationary and she doesn’t even need to touch it. If we insist that a tool needs to be held and manipulated to cause a change to something else, then Percy isn’t in fact a tool user. As a result, humans can now fly too, whether by hang-glider, helicopter, dirigible, rocket, aeroplane, hot-air balloon or even various types of personal jetpack. But tools allow for much greater flexibility and don’t rely on the very long-timescales and random pathways of evolution. Most animals deal with such issues through adaptations to their bodies, such as insects, bats and birds independently developing wings for flight. Leaving aside our own self-importance, what is it that makes tool use special? The key seems to be an ability to control one part of the environment while using it to change something else – hammering a nail into a board, or using a sail to catch the wind. Yet there is an understandable reluctance to see the simple stick tools of chimpanzees, for example, as somehow equivalent to our carts, cars and spacecraft. Starting with observations in the mid-twentieth century, we now know that in fact hundreds of other species use tools, from spiders to octopuses to monkeys. In part, this question is a result of a long-held view that humans were special because we use tools and other animals do not. But is tool use the right term to describe Percy’s clam-smashing? Or is it something better described as object handling or prey manipulation? It may seem like a fine distinction, but there is a serious scientific question underlying these descriptions. Narrator Sir David Attenborough states that Percy is ‘a fish that uses tools’. And this behaviour is likely to be more widespread than we currently know – there are scientific reports from 2011 of an orange-dotted tuskfish doing the same thing in Palau, and of a close relative, the black spot tuskfish, using a rock as an anvil on the Great Barrier Reef. One result is that the coral gets worn down and surrounded by numerous old, broken shells, which will give future scientists clues for finding other sites like Percy’s. The castle has a hardened spot on its inner rim that Percy targets over and over again with the clam, chipping away at the shell until it finally falls apart. But these molluscs are too tough for Percy’s teeth to crush, so instead she goes on a second journey, heading for a specific coral group that the producers called the ‘castle’. She then grabs the shell with her protruding front teeth, at which point most predators would simply eat their captured prey. She starts this process by searching out across the coral beds and sand flats for buried clams, which she discovers by blowing away the covering sand. In any case, Percy’s particular claim to fame is her ability to open clams by throwing and striking them against hard coral, breaking them apart. This sex-change operation was shown in the same episode for one of Percy’s wrasse relatives, the kobudai of Japan. Granted, she was female at time of filming the series-opening episode One Ocean, but larger females of her species are known to change sex when it would give them an evolutionary advantage. And it’s not entirely clear that she’s a female fish either. More precisely, she’s an orange-dotted tuskfish ( Choerodon anchorago also known as an anchor tuskfish) living in the warm waters of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Unlike most contributors, however, and despite a somewhat wonky grin, Percy gets to spend time in front of the camera. Just like thousands of other hard-working individuals, she put considerable time and effort into ensuring that Blue Planet II - the new BBC series that started on 29 October – is the most extraordinary window into the life of our planet’s oceans that anyone has ever seen. ✅ Ensure your chosen duplicate photo cleaner software is compatible with your device and operating system. Here is how you can choose a duplicate photo remover that best fits your needs: However, a duplicate photo remover can help you shed your load and guarantee accurate results. The house was transformed into three cottages during the 17th century, which involved a new door and additional fireplaces being added. A new parlour was installed in the house, and a floor was added halfway across the open hall to produce additional sleeping space. In the middle of the 16th century, however, Southampton's economy collapsed once again as trade with Italy declined, taking with it the prosperity of French Street. The Medieval Merchant's House was acquired by a sequence of established Southampton merchants, but it remained intact as a detached dwelling, unlike many other properties in the neighbourhood that were combined to form the larger homes that became more fashionable in the late 15th century. ĭuring the 15th century the economy of Southampton improved as a result of the Italian wool trade and the presence of many foreign merchants. The Medieval Merchant's House ceased to be used by major merchants and by 1392 appears to have been rented out to tenants by Thomas Fryke and John Barflet, the latter a descendant of John Fortin, for whom the house was originally built. The character of French Street began to change, as many houses were sub-divided or redeveloped to fit in more buildings. Southampton's economy collapsed in the aftermath of the attacks and never fully recovered. The house may have been one of those damaged in the raid, as the south-western corner of the building collapsed around that time and had to be quickly rebuilt other alterations, including the addition of a fireplace, may have been carried out at the same time. In 1338 there was a successful French attack on the town, during which various buildings were burned and castle was damaged. The central hallīy the 1330s, Southampton's prosperity was in a slow decline. At least 60 other houses similar to the Medieval Merchant's House were built in Southampton at around the same time. The original house was designed for use by John Fortin, a prosperous wine merchant, with a vaulted cellar for holding stock, a shop at the front of the property and accommodation for the family much of it was built in stone, but it featured a timber front, a fashionable design for the period. The area of Southampton around French Street had been re-planned earlier in the century, reducing the numbers of farm animals kept in and around the houses, driving poorer merchants and craftsmen into the less desirable northern half of the city, and creating a quarter of large, impressive houses, often built in stone with tiled roofs. The Medieval Merchant's House was built in about 1290 on French Street, Southampton, then a major port and a large provincial town with a population of around 5,000, grown rich from the trade with England's continental possessions in Europe. The building is architecturally significant because, as historian Glyn Coppack highlights, it is "the only building of its type to survive substantially as first built" it is a Grade I listed building and scheduled monument. The house is built to a medieval right-angle, narrow plan design, with an undercroft to store wine at a constant temperature, and a first-storey bedchamber that projects out into the street to add additional space. German bomb damage in 1940 revealed the medieval interior of the house, and in the 1980s it was restored to resemble its initial appearance and placed in the care of English Heritage, to be run as a tourist attraction. Built in about 1290 by John Fortin, a prosperous merchant, the house survived many centuries of domestic and commercial use largely intact. The Medieval Merchant's House is a restored late-13th-century building in Southampton, Hampshire, England. Location of Medieval Merchant's House in Southampton There is a new inventory of goods which is used by the alliance as a whole. This is even if your new alliance no longer has a starbase. If you have started researching/have researched something, even if you leave your alliance you will retain the research. To do research, you require a new currency, Assembly Medals which you get from Alliance Store bundles. Then it will require you have different levels of two things, your alliance reputation and the level of the modules already built on the station. Before you can do research, you must first have built the station. There is a new Starbase Research tree coming with the station. Even if a member has lower reputation, they will still gain the benefits of these modules. These modules are built on the base, and are used to let the base do new things and/or to create buffs for alliance. In order to do research in the Starbase research tree, you need certain levels of alliance reputation, so this will be very important not to lose. If you ever leave your alliance, this reputation resets to zero, even if you rejoin it later. As you destroy Cardassian stations or purchase Alliance Altruism bundles in the Alliance Store, this reputation increases. Alliance ReputationĪlliance reputation shows your current standing in your alliance. There are different types of plasma, and you will have to build the appropriate type of Plasma Harvester on the station to harvest that type of Plasma Storm.Īll this information is very new and unclear, updates will come. Plasma is also used for upgrading the station. As of now, there is no progress bar or any way to figure this out, so you have to see if the resources stop coming in in order to determine if you have to move or not. So with ours below, you can see our max capacity is 700,000, so after we’ve mined 700,000 the mining will stop and we’ll have to move it. Whatever its max capacity is determines how much you can mine before you move. The amount of Plasma you can harvest before you must move is determined by your Plasma Processor. Every time you finish mining a storm, you need to move it to another using alliance reserves (gained from Alliance Store bundles). This station is used to mine Plasma from Plasma Storms. The initial build requires 15,625 Subspace Superconductors. These are used both for the initial build of the starbase and also for upgrading it. In addition, within the alliance store there will be bundles to be purchased, to gain more materials for upgrade. However, to get the resources to build them, the players need to farm Cardassian armadas to get Supspace Superconductors. This meant that she became the largest size of barge able to fit into canal locks. She was later lengthened to 38.50m in order to increase her tonnage and her cargo capacity. The traders are also worried that the soaring price of tomatoes would take away the consumers from the vegetable. I am very sorry to say that it was better for the government not to sell tomatoes as the quality of the product is too bad and we still prefer to buy from retail markets even though price is on the higher side." G Manonamani, a housewife at Adayar in Chennai while speaking to media said, "The price of tomatoes has touched high and the government intervened by selling tomatoes through PDS shops. However, consumers said that the quality of the tomatoes was poor and that most who wanted to buy tomatoes depended upon the public market. The consumption of tomato has also reduced as people prefer to shy away from the vegetable due to the high prices. The reduced arrival of tomatoes, according to the merchants, is due to the destruction of crops in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh due to heavy rain for the past few weeks in the two states.
